My name is Tazeen Rizvi, I have lived in the same house in Decatur for my whole entire life however, every three to five years I go to visit my family in India. I always look forward to this visit as it brings me so much joy to see my family and experience all the adventures we have together. I plan on majoring in Biology at Agnes Scott College. My academic interest is Science, I am always so eager to learn how things function and work together in this Universe. One of the reasons why I am inspired to take on STEM studies is because of a very particular event that occurred in my life. I have elsewhere discussed this in my college essay– because it was a real life changing moment which altered my perspective. This event occurred when I visited India when I was around fifteen and I had the chance to go to a town named “Durai”. I came across this little girl there who had impaired eye-vision. My mom was conversing with the young girl’s aunt, who then told her that she needed a procedure done to fix her vision that was quite uncommon to be performed in the clinics of their town. They were also unable to afford the operation due to their financial status.This experience really opened my eyes about the medical issues of the world. I had always heard about people not being able to receive the help they needed but, to see it happening in front of my eyes it really impacted me. Through this experience I realized what I wanted my life goal to be. I am so inspired by the girl to focus on my studies and help make a change.
